Ever since I was a child, Brett Farve has been my all time favorite football player. I have followed him from the time he was a cheese head, to New York with the Jets, and now as a Viking. Even though I haven’t been around long enough to see him play all twenty seasons, I have watched him for as long as I can remember. A few years ago word got around that he was retiring from the Green Bay Packer. Obviously, I was devastated because I no longer had someone to support on Sundays when the football games were on. To my relief, he never when through with it and moved to a new team. Many during this time did not support Farve’s returning to the game even some of his most dedicated fans. Many wanted him to retire and walk away from the game he loves so much. I do not understand why so many had such a strong opinion about whether he continued to be a quarterback for the NFL. Why don’t those people try to quit the one thing that they love the most and have done for their entire life? Farve’s life has always centered on this sport, and it is not fair for people to try and take that from him. I think people should leave him alone and not scrutinize his decision to keep playing even as he enters in to his forties. He has amazing leadership skills and will always be classified as one of the greatest players of all time. If Brett continues to play as well as he did before there is no reason for him to pack up his locker and return home to Mississippi. He has had made accomplishments in his career that others only hope to achieve so why are people so desperate to see this legendary player jog of the field for the last time?

I agree that it would be hard to stop the one thing you love above all else but Farve's career has gone on long enough. I definately think its time for the Farve era of football to end. After many years in the NFL Farve's age is definately starting to show with his less than adequate performances this season. He has won pretty much every trophy a player can win and has countless records some that a player may not necessarily want. One of these including the NFL record for most interceptions thrown. I've always believed that the best time for a player to retire is when everyone wants them to come back for just one more season. This way you know your going out at the top of your game but still with no regrets. Farve should realize that his time has come and continue his involvement in football in another way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Max. Farve has had a great run but it is time for it to end. I understand your argument to not give up something that you love until you are done with it, but Farve is not only playing for himself. Playing football is his job and there is a lot more people involved than just him. I have to admit that I was one of those people hoping he would retire after his last season with the Packers. But, I have to admit the Viking team would be nowhere with out him and they had one of the best seasons in their franchise last year mostly due to him. But with all that said this year has not been that great so I think it is time for Farve to call it quits.
